Small-space gardening is a great option for urbanites, apartment-dwellers, college students and those of us who just don’t have the time and energy for a huge backyard garden. Lots of people are jumping on the itty-bitty garden train, and we are here to help! Our friendly, knowledgeable staff can assist you with design, soil, nutrients and everything in between.
First, decide where your greenery will be located, whether it be the kitchen windowsill, a balcony or deck, the front walk or a small raised bed outside. Window boxes are also a easy, fun option. Pick a creative container, then come see us.
If you’re feeling especially ambitious, you can try a hanging gutter garden. Click here for a full tutorial.
Of course, these are only a few of the places you can choose from. The right plants can grow in pretty much any space, which leads us to the second point of small-space gardening: What will you grow? This depends on a few things, including how much space you have, the amount of sun your chosen location receives everyday, and if you want flowers, or vegetables, or both. Some popular choices include herbs, succulents (both can grow in quite compact spaces) and tomatoes.
Then comes the fun part, gathering all your supplies. This is also where GreenTree comes in! Depending on where your garden will go, your supplies will be different, but you will definitely need soil, and we have that. Our various growing media are manufactured specifically for what you’re growing and where you’re growing it. Lighting is also important. If you're growing inside, we have a variety of indoor grow lights you can mount or hang over your small garden. Not sure what you’re looking for? Just ask!
And then you’re ready to get growing. Make sure to water regularly; the exact schedule will depend on how much sun and wind your plants get, as well as what type of soil and container they live in. If you have any questions, feel free to stop by or email us at [email protected]. Share your finished products with us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram!
