Carbon Consulting

Carbon Consulting LLC is committed to sustainable development and is at the forefront of developing innovative strategies to address the challenges of climate change.

Carbon Consulting LLC supports activities that will deliver a billion tons of CO2 offset. We are doing this both through our high quality research and consulting activities as well as through investing strategically in opportunities that enable the emerging biochar industry to commoditize the carbon assets it creates and to aggregate and trade these on the carbon markets.

Drought proofing

Drought proofing your garden

The dry spell in early May reminded me that weather is unpredictable, and it’s best to prepare for extremes. Seven days with no rain was tough on all the newly planted lettuce, spinach and radish seedlings. We never know whether we’ll have a wet or dry year or somewhere in between, but all the watering I’m doing in May has me thinking about how to make life easier. Here are some drought-proofing ideas for the home garden to make a dry summer easier in the garden.

1. Install irrigation equipment....

Blueberries are delicious… oh and they are good for you! Rich in vitamins K and C and high in fiber content, they are the ideal edible plant for your garden. Transplanting

There are endless methods for transplanting seedlings or rooted cuttings. They can go into soil, clay pebbles, coco, myriad hydroponics setups... One method that's often overlooked is rockwool.

Rockwool

If you're growing in hydro or soil, transplanting into rockwool may be a good idea. Rockwool comes in blocks that will allow a young plant to get established, or you can use rockwool cubes. The advantage of using rockwool is that it's a clean and recyclable, and it holds moisture evenly, allowing your plants ready access to...

What's wrong with peat?

Peat bogs store a massive amount of carbon. When it is harvested it starts to break down and release that CO2 into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change. Not only does peat have a CO2 problem, but peat bogs are biodiverse habitats and a valuable natural resource that renews only very slowly over the course of thousands of years.

We aim to use little to no peat in our mixes. We believe coir is better for the environment and our gardens.

What's Coco?

Coco is a byproduct of the coconut industry. After the pith, which would otherwise be discarded, is processed and washed it makes a fantastic growing medium.

Coco ensures a potting soil mixture absorbs water well, drains easily and distributes water throughout the substrate. Coco breaks down more slowly than peat and drains better. Plus, Coco is a byproduct of coconut farming and is a sustainable alternative to peat.

Not only does Coco act as a natural wetting agent, it will dry out on the surface while still holding water underneath, which lessens the risk of algae and fungus...

Would your plants fancy a cup of tea?

Composts and compost extracts have been in common use over hundreds of years to promote plant and soil health.

But aerobic compost teas such as GreenTeaTM are different. They use aeration technology to create optimum levels of oxygen for growth and reproduction of beneficial aerobic microorganisms. Many of our customers are already brewing teas to complement their fertilizer regimens in large-scale agriculture, viticulture, horticulture, nurseries, lawn care, and residential gardens.
